(Miami, FL)- The City of Miami Commission unanimously supports a new ordinance which requires all elected and appointed officials in the City, along with department directors, to successfully complete a rigorous ethics course designed by the Miami-Dade Commission of Ethics and Public Trust and FIU’s Metropolitan Center. All registered lobbyists will be required to take the course before they are allowed to do business with the City. The ordinance, which will return on second reading next month, is co-sponsored by Chairman Marc D. Sarnoff and Mayor Tomas Regalado. The ordinance has been in the works since September.

“The days of scandals and breaches of public trust with the City of Miami must immediately come to an end. There needs to be clear criteria and objective standards which every public official and lobbyist will be held to, “says Chairman Sarnoff.

The course will teach real-life scenarios of unacceptable behavior and will underscore the avoidance of even the appearance of impropriety.

“Public confidence is lost with each scandal, I am very gratified that the entire Commission supports this important measure,” says Mayor Regalado.

Attached is a copy of the ordinance.  For more information, please contact David Karsh at (786) 299-0597.
