City of Miami Parks Says “Be A Life Saver - Dunk Your Trunks Swim Suit Drive”
|
(Miami, FL) -Here is your chance to help a save a life. The City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department on August 19, 2009 starting at 9am and all day until closing at 8pm will be holding their first ever Be A Life Saver - Dunk Your Trunks Swim Suit Drive at Grapeland Water Park 1550 NW 37 Avenue, Miami, FL 33125.
When you live in Florida, you take it for granted that anyone can enjoy the ocean, pools and lakes that surround us. Thousands of children right here in the City of Miami have never learnt basic learn-to-swim skills meaning they are vulnerable to the high number of water accidents and deaths that happen each year due to swimming ignorance. “One of the most common excuses our staff hear when trying to enroll children and adults in learn-to-swim is that they don't have a swim suit or the money to buy one” said Thatcher Robertson, Pool Supervisor for Miami Parks.
As part of the last week of summer break, City of Miami Parks have made it possible for parents to bring their children to the water park on the normal free kids day (every Wednesday) and with each donated swim suit an adult can also have free admission into the water park. The collected swim suits will then be distributed to children and adults who have the desire to learn to swim but do not have the resources to buy a swim suit that will get them into the pool. Normal park rules and capacity limits will apply.
So we invite you to look in your dressers, your children's drawers and break out those gently used swim suits that you know you will never wear again and bring them on August 19th starting at 9am and donate them so that other children and adults can become aquatically skilled fans of the water and one day visit Grapeland Water Park in confidence. We ask for any size swim suit for boys or girls as just as those who need to learn to swim are different ages so are their sizes. Since the main target of the program are children, please no thongs or bikinis. For more information call (305) 960-2951.
